The Elephants is an open-genre, independent press that works in Victoria, British Columbia, on the traditional lands of the Lekwungen, Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ peoples; and in Portland, Oregon, on the lands of the Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Chinook, Tualatin Kalapuya, Molalla and other tribes. It publishes heterodox materials as acts of love and solidarity with the communities in which they’re created. It’s with the underdogs: war on the palaces, peace to the huts.

The Elephants typically publish two books a year: novels and novellas, poetry, essays, short story collections, translations, memoirs, children’s literature, translation, multi-lingual work, or (especially) anything that permeates those generic boundaries. We hold an open reading period in May and June. If you want to know about new books, our reading period, or its results; or if you’d like to contact us for any reason, including requesting review copies, please use this form or find us on Instagram.
